Hot for spring: power lipstick

What I understand by power lipstick is ultimately an accessory.
An accessory which translates a bold, cheerful attitude into a dynamic, forceful color.

First off, red will always be THE color. All time, every time. Classic, lady-like & so chic! Yet lately other colors have been making a strong comeback. Bright lips have been popular for a while now and they will remain in the spotlight for the upcoming spring/summer season.

But why am I telling you all this? A few days ago I realized that I've never mentioned on the blog about some super-special products I won/received last summer from Pat McGrath, makeup artist extraordinaire! She had regular contests on twitter (#GlamGiveaways) and I won one of the Best Red Lip prizes! So nice!

Fact is, I wasn't sure if I should feature them or not (I'm not exactly running a makeup blog over here), then they got into my daily routine and eventually totally forgot about doing a feature until today. But lipstick is an important accessory that usually makes or breaks a look. So I figured this is the perfect timing to take some photos and compare some swatches since, well, spring is just around the corner! Who doesn't want to look fresh, feminine and well accessorized after a cold, dry winter?

Thought so.

Hope you'll enjoy this, because I've never done a makeup review before.

But I'm putting a very serious & professional face on and here we go!

Photo of all the stuff I received: lipsticks, mascara, eyeliners, eyeshadow (all Covergirl), cute Le Sportsac pouch & a note. Oh la la!

Oh my god! A handwritten note. Appreciated it so much!
And I was really happy about the spelling of my name, not many people in real life got it right yet. So, yes.

Onto the lip color:

Covergirl LipPerfection Lipcolor. Runway shades picked by Pat herself.
My favorites. Simply fabulous.

Swatches. The difference between 330 divine and 325 spellbound is so subtle. The 330 is a bit more on the purple side. And even though I am a bright-pink-lipstick kinda girl, I quickly deemed it as a favorite. The 395 darling is perfect for day/early morning wear. It ads just enough color without being too out there.

If I remember correctly, I was wearing the 305 hot in the photos from this post back in October.

And the 325 spellbound in these photos last month.

And here is how 330 divine looks on:

I'm wearing Covergirl LashBlast Volume Mascara, Avon eyeliner and Covergirl LipPerfection Lipcolor in Divine.

I sometimes alternate lipsticks and use some hot, hot shades from Maybelline. Maybelline has great lipsticks too. For me, Covergirl and Maybelline lip colors tend to have great pigments and last about the same (7 to 8 hours without reapplying, which is great). However, I decided to show just these from Covergirl because we don't have this brand here and so I cherish them more, haha. Oh yes, I also got three Covergirl Gloss balms which I didn't use so much because I loved the full color coverage a real lipstick can give.

Phew! This was a long & atypical post for me, so do tell:

What do you think about this post? I'd love to hear opinions! Or do you have any questions?

  1. Easy, breezy, beautiful. I'm not much of a lipstick wearer myself, but it might be because I didn't ever find the right lipstick. Liked your post, especially since you seem to always rock one cool shade or another.

  2. GUH. I am so in love with Covergirl's Lip Perfect line right now - I recently bought Divine and it truly is just that! Beautiful photography in this post :D

  3. Lovely colors!
