Zara (forever) Young Spring/Summer 2010

Why hello there! If the beginning of your weekend is also cold and dusty grey, let's cheer ourselves up with some bright young fashion!

And for those of you who enjoy sun and maximum warmth outside right now, I say you should raid your closet and find something similar to what you are about to see below. It is good!

Zara, the ever so accessible brand and the eternal competitor of Mango has quite some imaginative ideas going on for the SS2010 young collection. In times when the 90s are still somehow pushed in the obscure memory lane, Zara dares to take them out to light again.

Here is the preview for Zara Young SS2010 featuring Ranya Mordanova and Arthur Daniyarov.

Hello campaign done exclusively in black&white! You look stunning! Really, I wish more mainstream companies would take the plunge and present something other than overly done commercial shots. It is like a breath of fresh air.

Now, my only curiosity remains whether the girl's lipstick is really black or the most amazing hue of dark red. I hope the latter! Other than that, I have been staring at these images and still have absolutely no clue why they reminds me of Minnie Mouse. Any ideas? No big ears in sight, no out of this world garments, but there's something going on I can't exactly put my finger on. Not right now at least.

News from the .ro fashion scene

In the past few days, some interesting news from the Romanian fashion scene have taken my inbox by storm. I am very glad to hear about all these and hope things will turn out even more spectacular in the future. Today I will just have to cram all these into one post, as I was (due to strict timeframes) unable to mention them all on time as they appeared. But no fret, things shouldn't pass by unmentioned. And I love doing this especially when a few days have passed and the hype is not at its heights anymore. So let's turn up the volume! (Or as Anna Wintour would say: "Please, let's lift it.")

Our first mention for the day and the one which deserves more hypes than others is the upcoming Cluj-Napoca Fashion Week. Sadly enough, but Pasarela 2010 and Romanian Fashion Week won't be happening this year. So the stakes have been raised quite high for CNFW. The event will take place during the 14th-17th of April, at the Colors Events&Ballroom Cluj.

International designers will come together at Cluj, from countries such as Poland, Hungary or Austria. Among the Romanian designers who will be participating at FW stand Claudia Castrase, Livia Mihu, Manuela Zamfir, LuLuAh, Mihaela Ciurlugea and many others.
For more info on the subject, make sure to "haunt" the official Facebook account and follow @CN_Fashion_Week on Twitter. Adina Necula is in charge of fashion PR, and will keep us updated on her blog, too.

I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am since it will take place in my hometown and start on my birthday. Quite a nice way to remember both events, right? Mark your calendars!

Second thing that landed in my inbox was a highlight of Maria Filipescu attending the Pret a Porter Paris exhibit this year. Many great Romanian designers among which my favourites must be Irina Schrotter and Elena Perseil were present. See the entire list here.

According to my sources, Maria was the only Romanian jewelery designer to attend this year. She was included in the stand of Les filles d’ailleures. Let's keep fingers crossed for that next year she will have her own place.

Last but not least on my sharing list for today is the launching of the new La Redoute Catalogue for Spring/Summer 2010. The event took place in Bucharest on the 2nd of February (see how late am I to highlight this, but nevertheless here it is).

I couldn't make it to the event, but some of my fellow bloggers were there to personally find out about new trends, products and styling suggestions. I loved to see photos, it seemed like a lot of fun with a crowd of great people.
The best part (and news, alltogether) is that the products on the site are "refreshed" with products directly form France. And while you are visiting the site, you might as well go see the blog too. It's very well put together and updated frequently. La Redoute proves that it can strengthen its place on the Romanian market with professionalism and care towards clients and public.

The Love/Hate Relationship With Fashion

Edited by Debutante Clothing

I’m always complaining about going out to fashion events by myself – I just don’t have many friends that are into fashion. While some people think fashion is frivolous and contributes nothing to the world, others are curating museum exhibits featuring 20th century clothing. This week’s links made me think about the love/hate camps in fashion. Starting with Grit and Glamour’s post on bloggers getting backlash from fashion insiders, Houndstooth + Tortoiseshell’s refreshingly funny admission of Tavi envy, or Fab Lab’s hate of people who hate. But there is some love in sight – British Style Bloggers reminds us to look in the mirror and love ourselves. Enjoy!

Why are your eyes sooo big?

I may be stuck in a somewhat repetitive line over here, but this is the truth: I love stories.

There's nothing like a good story to fill your day, even if it's only about a single illustration from it or a few savvy words.

Do you agree?

Yes?

No?

Anyway, here's something I thought it would make a perfect illustration for the story of Little Red Riding Hood. Sure, if the girl herself was indeed so... sophisticated, maybe the wolf wouldn't have eaten her at all. He would have been scared off! Ha.

On another note. Candy-colored hair is here to stay.

Or at least it's quite a safe statement to make taking into account the fact that everybody's doing it for, how long has it been...? Half an year? Think so. And it is going stronger. Power!

P.S. Here is the rest of the editorial (ph. credits: fashiongonerogue.com).

And here is a more realistic approach on the theme of illustrating fairytales/stories. Featuring Sasha, of course. Enjoy!

Skin Logo

Surely you remember the tattoos that made the rounds over the internet at the Chanel SS2010 show, right? Well, the news is that starting with the 1st of March, Chanel will launch such trompe-l’œil tattoos.

Details you ask? The public will be given what the public asked for. So if you ever found yourself lusting for a double C tattoo, well, Karl wants you to have one! Word is that the tattoos will be available in international stores like Selfridges and of course, Chanel boutiques.

HA! Now it is downright fashionable to rock tattoos. Envision a long, summer dress paired with these:

Fifty-five tattoo designs will be available under the name of “Les Trompe L’Oeil de Chanel”, for 55 euros a pop.

This initiative kind of reminded me of childhood. I loved applying fake tattoos which came with candy or chewing gum, they were so much fun! But I hated it when it started fading out slowly. Wonder how these new-era tattoos came out for mass production.

But besides that, do people really want to brand their skin? I can't help but ask...

Daiane
