How did you choose the name of your blog?

Hey there! This is the third installment of Friday Bloggers. If you participated in the first editions, I can't wait to read your opinion on this week's question too!

For those of you who are joining Friday Bloggers now, here's the scoop: each week, my super-cool readers and I answer a question related to blogs and blogging. The aim is to get to know each other better, exchange ideas and share blogosphere-related experiences.

The previous installments were "Do you moderate comments on your blog?" and "Why do you blog?". Take some time to go through these, especially the comments section, the conversation is very engaging!

Ok now. This week, the question is...
How did you choose the name of your blog?

Picking a name for your blog is maybe the most important step of the entire setting up process: design, layout, domain, host etc. Those few words will define you and your words in the online community. So I bet you have an interesting explanation for naming your blog the way you did.

I can't wait to hear what you have to say! Many blogs have such amazing, funny, innovative names I often end up wishing I knew what the inspiration was. Personal experience of sorts? Nicknames? A mix of your favorite words? Your own name?
You will find my answer in the comments section so I'll meet you there!

  1. The name Sweet Fancy Treat just came up on an early October morning. I was anxiously wishing to kick it off but it would't have been possible without a proper name. These three simple words just entered my mind, one after the other, in this exact order.
So I decided to adopt them as a philosophy for this entire fashion-centered blog and transform it into a celebration of all things highly lovable. Each post is designed to be a treat for the reader. Sweet and fancy, of course!

  2. i always enjoy this type of post of yours Daiane. I've answered your last two questions.. so for this one, here it is:

The Audacity Effect came about when I decided that I should face life with a daring, adventuresome attitude. Or at least encounter things that are bold.

My previous blog name was My Silent Interlude but my friend named that for me so I really wanted a name that was my own. :)

  3. I chose my blog name "Statements in Fashion" because every statement, every persons style is different...its a fashion statement in its own way.....this will be alot of fun to see how everyone came up with their blogs name:)

  6. My blog name comes from my internet pseudonym. My real name is the Spanish version of Juliette - Julieta and the Maxwell comes from "secret agent names" nmy ex-BFF and I gave eachother when we were in high school, I was Maxwell and she was O'Conner.

    Not that exciting either :P.

  7. I chose te name of my blog because it sounded great and made sense. I got the name Quench because I hope to quench the need and want for fashion and style to my readers. Anf I describe myself as fabulous so Fab went right a long with it. Quench Fab it was! =)

  8. I named my blog after my name, Sarah, combined with one of my many nicknames, that all of my friends adore to call me: Sunshine. ->>> Sunshine Sarah. I'm truly happy they think I'm a little sunshine in their lives and that I bring them smiles and laughter... (even though I'm kind of moody) :)
Anyway, I didn't want it to seem egocentric, cause I'm not really like that. I always want to see the people around me happy first, and then think about myself.
I think this is the main reason I started a kind of semi-personal blog. I want to share with others what I think it's interesting, lovely things, joyful things.

    Lots of love!
    Sarah.

  9. I've always enjoyed anachronisms and seemingly opposite things and names that conveyed duality...I kept making up weird phrasing for nicks in messenger, wicked halo was just one and I thought it expressed well the concept behind the blog, a big messy and pretty mishmash with some innocence like in angels (hence the halo), but with a mischievous, wicked side like a little devil

  10. My friend and I were walking home from school earlier this year when trying to come up for a name for our blog.

We wanted to incorporate the word "art" in there.

I saw a mustang drive by...and at first jokingly, I said "let's name it Mustart!" and we both sorta laughed at how silly that sounded (since it sounds a lot more like "Mustard" than it does "Mustang") but then we actually ended up choosing it cause we couldn't think of anything better hahahhaha.

  12. I've had a few blogs. My current one is just my first and middle name plus an "r" at the end. Not that interesting.
My first blog was entitled "junkie =]" & that was a period where I felt like there was just a lot of junk in my life and I felt overwhelmed but happy at the same time? If that makes sense.
My second was entitled "Cuz I'ma Dino". I used to bite people... a lot. & When anyone asked me why I bite people, I would say "Cuz I'ma Dino!" (Dino short for dinosaur?)
And finally my third blog was entitled "{monstrosity at the arcade]" I actually got this idea from the show "The L Word" because in one of Jenny's stories she uses the word monstrosity and I thought it was interesting. This was the same time people started calling me a monster. I was just very brutal and harshly honest. So they though of me as a monster.
Sorry if this is so long!
I loved this question though, it really made me think! :)

  14. i love these questions! i know i've said that before but its suchhh a great idea!!

when i was naming my blog i wanted to stray away from anything that said fashion because all of the good ones were taken. so i made a list of a bunch of possible names and dressed up alligators stood out the most and seemed to work :) its quirky and unexpected i think. plus its a line in an ugly cassanova song! looking forward to next weeks question ;)

  15. Haha oh gosh, I guess I've always had the name for my blog rattling around in my head, because Breakfast at Tiffany's was always my favorite movie, and Saks was always my favorite place to shop! So I put them together... lol, not that exciting of a story, sorry! :)

So I translated that into my blog :)

  19. Coming up with a name was so hard! We just wrote a bunch of names down and then picked one at random. There were a lot of really bad names there, but I'm glad we chose HiFashion. There's no particular reason for it though,.

  20. A lot of people live by the quote: 'What would Madonna do?'. But because I'm not Madonna and just myself, and I love fashion, I put it together and got: 'What would Leonie wear?'. Very simple, hehe.

  21. I adore this idea! I find it so fascinating how people came up with their so crucial blog name.

I had spent hours scouring every creative particle I had in my brain. I knew I wanted to include square somehow. Decided to take a break and relax. My break consisted of me grabbing the nearest book, which happened to be an old medical dictionary. Flipped open to hysterectomy... and then it hit me. And that is the story of how squarectomy was born.

    Love Grace.

  22. My blog name is...my name! The web-identity of my name anyway (Faith is my middle name). I wanted my blog to be a reflection of me, and I don't think I could have come up with any other name that would have fit it better.

  28. this is super fun. the name of my blog (when it was a personal blog last year) was called "same same" because when people would ask how i'm doing i'd just say "same same".

but when i decided to change the entire angle of my blog, i knew i needed a much more descriptive name. Oh to Be a Muse came to me when I was thinking that I wanted my blog to inspire my readers. And I knew that muses were meant to inspire. But I didn't want to call it Fashion Muse or something like that because I wanted to be able to talk about non-fashion related topics. So that's how Oh to Be a Muse was born. :)

  29. hi this is my first time at your blog and im just loving the way things are set out here :)
i love ur posts too !

my blog name is based on my thoughts on fashion. to me.. in order to be stylish, we gotta suffer in some point.. for example, heels make us look all that, but it does take more effort to walk in them right ? we can look cute and be comfy flats bt we'll never look sexy like we do in heels.

many thanks for the comments as always ..

  32. Cool! It's based on a song I heard and really liked. The title is from one line of the song, where the songwriter wrote that "you've nothing to lose when you're loved from the start" and I felt as if that really stuck out to me. Plus it's a really beautiful thought -- being loved gives us the courage we need to do things we wouldn't normally do.

  33. when i was still dating my now-husband his little nieces and nephews were trained to call me "miss jess" because they're all cute and southern. my blog is about my life, which can be a bit boring. therefore: the mundane adventures of miss jess. it's a bit long, but i don't know if i want to change it because i like it so much haha.

  34. browsing through the comments I realized that many of the people here gave the name of their blog a great deal of thought, I hate to admit it but that really wasn't my case. I just thought about the fact that my blog would reflect my personal fashion choices and my sewing endeavors, but also be testament to the fact that fashion does not have to be mainstream, and people who love fashion are not just imitating trends but making conscious choices that reflect their personality... so fashion customized and personalized fashion (link and title) seemed to do the job. But then again "what's in a name..."
    bdw. I love this post

  40. Great question, love! I remember naming my blog with the help of my best friends from uni. We made a list of random words and spun them around for a few days until I caved and told them to just chose two they think represent me. They both yelled out Coffee! at the same time and then I chose Cinnamon because my nickname from the boys in my class was Cinnamon Girl.

In the end they both fit just right :)
