The Nomadic Way

More than looking at pretty pictures with clothes (although that is something hard to top in itself) I appreciate when I can learn something in the process. What I mean by learning is not acknowledging or getting inspiration, but understanding a meaningful concept. Of course, no need to say it, when fashion and interior design come together, it all gets even more interesting, not to mention exciting!

But enough with the introduction already, let's get to the point: Eunsuk Hur is a textile designer who searches for innovative ways of expressing oneself in the domains of fashion and interior design. She is pushing the limits of what textiles mean today and her work is very future forward.

Eunsuk Hur graduated in 2009 from central Saint Martins School of Art and Design with a degree in MA Design for Textile Futures. Because I find her project so special, I will quote directly the Project description just as it appears on the site:
"An interchangeable modular system of textile pieces can be transformed by the user to create a new piece of clothing or interior accessories which promote sustainable design. Each piece can be put together in a variety of ways allowing the user freedom of design with playful experimentation, different outfits that are emotionally durable and multifunctional."

After enjoying some visual glee, I wondered what materials and techniques are used to create such lively, dynamic effects. The answer is laser cutting and other methods such as sublimation printing on wood, acid printing on wool felt or etching onto leather. What is truly remarkable is that the textiles can be reinvented by alteration as many time as wished and thus creating sustainable final products.

The conclusion to be drawn from all this and from the work of Eunsuk Hur is that we need to involve ourselves more into what we wear and what surrounds us. I think the era of mixing&matching (oh, delightful concept that was) is clearly coming to an end. We need to be more emotionally involved into what surrounds us, in order to properly appreciate it and take care of it...

Attitude Girls

Since today is Friday I thought the most pleasant way to start the weekend would be by gathering some great photos from the latest editorials that surfaced across the online world. So there you have them, two in black&white and one in color, a "tradition" I suppose I already have you familiar with. Why "Attitude Girls"? Because, in one way or another, these photos express so many things/feelings through the posture and the props. If you want to see more from each spread, just click on the link below each photo.

all photos: Fashion Gone Rogue

I was about to end the post here, but it got me thinking, why did I choose these exact photos for an inspiration post? Let's see: for the first photo it is kind of obvious, the huge hat! At the second photo I love the posture and how blond hair goes with an animal print blouse, animal print being something I don't really fancy all that much on a normal basis. Third shot has something so wicked about it with the urban perspective going on in the back and misterious look of the model from underneath those sleek bangs.

Go Fashion Bloggers, Go!

Edited by Debutante Clothing

As more and more print magazines fold, bloggers seem to be growing in professionalism and media legitimacy. When bloggers such as Previously Owned and kaKofonie Of si(gh)lenS can get the scoop on international designers, you know the fashion playing field is being leveled. If bloggers can host great giveaways like Retro Chick’s, I wonder why the FTC needs to play big brother. Fashion Pulse Daily wants to know if you even care. It seems we are becoming the pretty, little websites that could. Yay bloggers!

Winter With A Touch Of Summer

I am a winter&autumn lover but at some point I feel like going "Stop with the blizzard already!". Then I look at people around and all the time someone has a warm-feelings-inducing fur coat on them. I am dying (to say the least) to pull out mine too, but I have to wait just a tiny bit more. That bit that will make fur be perfect even at midday temperatures.

In the meantime however, I got a new pair of earmuffs. In black. Oh yes. A different model though, which goes through the back of the head. I love them, even though my earphones are getting slightly claustrofobic underneath them, but hey, you can't please everyone, right?  Didn't get the time to take photos of/with them. Yet. Actually, I can't remember the last time I took an outfit photo. This is slightly depressing, but I barely have enough time to actually be at home. So, maybe, on a sunny day. Just you wait for it, it will be epic!

As far as the above photo is concerned, I just had a sudden urge of drawing something, so I used my face as a blank piece of paper. Fun. And if you ask what was the touch of Summer, well, it's floating in the air. I hope I will call it an early evening today since I am (still) a bit short on actual sleep. Whoa. xx

Sometimes I look at photos and imagine them in Black&White

all photo credits: Ren Rox

All of the above are taken from my latest photography site crush...

Ren Rox. There's something eerie about these photos which leads me into gazing at them for minutes and minutes again.

Should I go (yet again) in stating the incredible power of expression that black&white photos have? They accentuate the feeling coming across it, the defining lines and clear contours, oh...

Some things I could obsess over since laying my eyes on these photos: bangs, wild flowers superposed, impressive head accessories, double takes on anything.

Instead I will be drawing inspiration and build up my own imagery. I should be posting some new photos over here too these days, so once I get around to do it, they will be up!

The town starts piling up on winter decorations and this fact alone, at the start of November, is freaking me out: they spoil all my winter joy already! Is that weird?

Today was so cold that the green branches, still with leaves on them, fell down on the ground and covered it all up. It was sad to see this the first thing when I went outside. Winter is biting hard.

In precious lands, time passes backwards

One needs jewellery. But won’t die without it: jewellery is for the sole purpose of decorating ourselves and make us appear more mysterious, polished or appealing. Some wear jewellery just because they remind them of something dear that has happened in the past.

Pieces with sentimental value are worn years after years without the thought of letting it behind one day even coming up. However, some persons claim they can’t even think clearly without wearing one or more rings on their fingers or without a stack of bracelets hanging from their wrists. And know what? They actually could be right. One can’t judge clearly if a part of them is missing. Nevermind about thinking in physical or financial terms, jewellery is strictly related to feelings, perceptions and what part of them one wants to put out there. The sound of a few bangles coming together or that made by chandelier earrings when the head turns are enough to bring one back in the present and focused. It may sound weird, but this is how it works.

When it comes to jewellery pieces, saying that there is a maximum number one could own is of course, ridiculous. But it’s even more ridiculous to assume we could ever stop lusting after fabulous or unique pieces. Compare jewellery with shoes or clothes if you like: they couldn’t be more different. While clothes keep us covered and warm during winter and shoes literally keep our feet far from the ground, jewellery is not something that can be listed as necessary. No, jewellery does not dress us or keep us warm, but it does something even more important: it talks about us and suits our character and feelings. From this point of view, jewellery is essential when it comes to defining one person at a first glance. Oh, and don’t think about the financial aspect: expensive jewellery does not define you. In the end it all comes down to the shape, colors and originality. A heavy diamond does not make anyone more valuable, but an original, statement piece, even more if it is handmade will truly represent who you are and what you stand for...

50s dresses, glasses and sweets!

This is a short selection of 50s dresses and glasses. And to make things even more delicious and eye-candy worthy, I also threw in the mix a matching dessert. Sa-sweet! Of course, each set belongs to a different girl/fictional character who can't wait to share with you her view on life and style. Ready to meet them? Let's go!
~~~
The first girl is Annie. She loves how fresh the air smells in Spring and likes to take long strolls around the park that time. On many occasions, she would plot fabulous picnic parties with her group of girlfriends where they share delicious macaroons and red wine. Annie loves to dress herself as feminine as possible. Not too over the top, but she does enjoy some pink hues here and there. Every time she will meet you on the street she would say "Hello, how are you?" in a friendly yet high voice. One more reason to want to be friends with her.
~~~
Baby Kat is not her real name, it's the nickname she would respond to. Even though her real name is Kate, people call her Baby Kat because of her effervescent personality which brings her in the spotlight wherever she goes. She enjoys wearing darker hues of color because they complement her skin tone in the best way possible. But she can choose wearing light blue from time to time if she feels like it in the morning when she picks the dress for the day. Baby Kat enjoys celebrating everything and throws regular themed parties in the countryside where her family lives in a big mansion.

Sarah is the typical example of an uptown girl. Always dressed up and never caught off guard, she enjoys life as a whole, not thinking too much about what tomorrow will bring. Her greatest dream is to open a hat boutique of her own and start a business. For now, she works as a sales assistant in her mother's store where she helps with the packaging. Sarah loves wrapping presents in colorful paper with an extravagant matching ribbon. She is requested to do extra work for birthday celebrations or holidays and she will save all the money she earns for her future hat store.

The girls hope you liked them and are already looking forward to meet you again. From a different era, though. I suspect them of being time travelers. What a great way to spend one's life! xx

In The Spirit. So To Say.

The good thing about celebrations is that you get to reinvent yourself. Isn't it so? Put on something fancier, do something special if you feel like it, the limits are no longer there.

I didn't mean to even mention Halloween on here, but I found a couple of amazing ideas worth bringing to you at least in photo shape.

First there are these sugar-coated apples dressed up in a spooky way. Ahahah, I totally remember how I was attracted by their red aura when I was little. Loved sticking my teeth into them!
