The 60s called, they want these dresses back. Too late though.

I'm so glad to see something so clean in terms of cuts and colors. Nothing as the 80s craze that is going on. Of course, something so classy could only be done for Bergdorf Goodman. Unlike any other decades, these dresses look just as perfect now, as they could have looked then or in, say, another 40 years. Side note: the perfect, saturated color hues are above perfection.
Looking at these images I'm tempted to state it should be essential to a own not just a Little Black Dress (LBD), but also a Little Blue Dress (LBlD) and a Little Violet Dress (LVD). Haha. Pouf! Just like that.

Different Names For The Same Thing

A few weeks ago I was dreaming about polka dotted tights with the same intensity you wish for something you know it will take time to arrive. Like... looking forward to Christmas in the middle of summer. Exactly. So if this post (Transitions: Polka Perfection) was dedicated to regular polka dots on tights, here's a special treat: black hearts on white background.

Oh dear. I think that if I stare much more at these photos, I will get a headache. Gorgeousss. Also, I find that the contrast between these two photos placed one near another is a transition in itself. The first is real-life (originally from Garance Dore, if I recall corectly) and the other is most probably from an editorial... I'd love to know which one, that's for sure!

Title of the post... this song popped in my head completely out of the blue:

Now tell me, do you happen to have any links to similar designs?

"if you want to hear the sound of beauty, come and hear her sing"

”A Dream of a Dress”
Vogue Italia, September 2009
Photographer: Paolo Roversi

This must be the most ravishing look I've seen lately. In terms of looking precious but a bit edgy; dripping in diamonds but casual; glamorous and what not. Let's make up a story for her, shall we? So consider it's the storyteller who will be borrowing the following paragraph.

She's not a bride. She may seem preoccupied but she's just trying to catch her breath a bit. She ran away from an extravagant party just when the waiters bringing bubbly champagne walked inside the room. She didn't want to be there anymore for the moments to come. Neither for all that would have followed: the dance, the casual and polite conversations... So she sneaked outside the door when nobody was watching and ran across the front lawn. Passed right by some guests who were just arriving. Didn't turn her head and hurried as much as possible on her sky-high heels to get to the main road. By now, her long hair was down, leaning on her shoulders, and mirroring her every move. Suddenly she stoped and waited, looking across the plain, aiming towards the horizon. The sun was just about to set and its last rays of light were shining in her eyes and decadent necklace. The wait was short: a car stopped and waited for her to get inside, carefully arranging the dress around herself. Ten minutes later, she was sitting at a casual table with a dim light hanging from above; here eyes were fixing the singer on stage, and her ears wouldn't catch a single sound except these:

Let's Get Cultural

If one counts book cover illustrations as cultural. But I promise, after you're finished with reading this post, you will see them as such. We are talking about Ruben Toledo, who is a multi-media artist, and yes, married to fashion designer Isabel Toledo. The two work together on various projects and he even put this into a book and an exhibition entitled Toledo/Toledo: A Marriage of Art and Fashion...
So, the book covers I was mentioning? Commissioned by Penguin with the explicit wish of making them appealing to young people. True words from Ruben: "they are all period stories, clearly set in another time and ruled by the mode of their time in history, yet are totally relevant to this Twitter world we live in. "

I will finish by outlining the best reason to admire Ruben's work: because it spans so many domains! Take a deep breath: illustrator, painter, sculptor, fashion chronicler; designer of: mannequins, store windows, award statuettes, scarves, fabrics, dishes and carpets. What made Ruben well known though (at least from my point of view) are his illustrations for The New Yorker, Vogue or Harper’s Bazaar, among others. That's what I call being an inspiring person.

Reverse Yourself In Colored Gradients

This was so fun! Creating color inspiration palettes based on how you perceive a word, a feeling, or a photo. Because I generally love admiring editorials, especially fashion ones, I thought it would be very useful to extract something more from them. Besides ideas on how to wear clothes, how to mix and match... what if the colors could be taken to a different level of usage?
And here we come to today's feeling. When I say September, I mean dusty colors, wind messing with my hair, lots of layering, enjoying comfort and softness. Actually, I think that may be the word for it: softness. Maybe because summer is about bright shades of nearly everything, from flowers to blinding rays of sun... I feel the need of literally cooling things down once the temperatures allow it.
What you can see below is fashion photo + its color theme. Enjoy.

It feels so great to just look at these colors all ligned up one next to the other. I have no idea why, but I could gaze at them for hours...

Passport to Fe(a)ther Land

Today I discovered this beautiful video entitled "Birds of a Fether". It's a short film which presents Erin Fetherston's autumn/winter '09 collection in a rather unexpected way. If you're not familiar with Erin Fetherston, then you should be, and fast. She's one of the few designers that actually embodies her creations, her fashion. I'm having a hard time trying to dissociate her from what she does. I find that to be a great fact, and really important to raise credibility. Erin has been taking the fashion world by a storm only for the last four years. But she accomplished so much during this period: built up her name, established her brand and found a genuine way to express it.

So much for the talk, this is the video:

Here are some screenshots I totally love and had to share:

Some of the ladies who make an appearance in the film: Paz de la Huerta, Ingrid Schram, Daria Strokous, singer Kelsey Barrett. An army of models basically follow leader Erin throughout the West Village. Director: Marisa Crawford. One could say the idea is a bit egocentric, but I adore how the video ends, with Erin hiding from the girls an letting them continue their way on their own. The title itself is pure genius, reminiscent of Erin Fetherston yet again: "Birds of a Fether". It's such a good way of putting this: "I'm showing you how to begin it, so you can carry on by yourself afterwards". And that's how a brilliant promotion gets done.
