Cat And Lilac

This is how I found my cat sleeping in my bed today. Not exactly the unusual fact. Also, I have this lilac bouquet on my desk and even though it's not fresh anymore, it still smells great. Plus, I love the color of it right here, near the computer screen. I'm a bit busy right now working and writing this while grabbing a bite which makes the whole thing quite treacherous.
But! I specially searched for the lilac post here on SFT around this time last year... hehe.

"Tailor, there's a lady in my suit!"

Last night, the sports fans watched John Higgins stride towards victory in the Sheffield Crucible final. While withholding no credit for the three-times snooker world champion, 's attention focuses on Michaela Tabb, the world's leading female snooker referee.

Michaela has managed to judge her way through bow ties and dinner jackets and build up an impecable reputation for being professional, elegant and graceful. Players must find the high heels  and the hair-dos intimidating, but your regular male couch potato will hardly put a price on the effort it takes to make a solid female appearance in a generally male sport.

"There were female referees before I started, everybody needs to know that it is not that I was the first referee. I was the first referee to do ranking events and televised rankings events, so I obviously looked like the new girl on the block and was under scrutiny." (www.thesnookerforum.com)

Custom-made gloves by Sudbury’s of Torrington, a hankie, two ball markers and a coin – the largest she can find in her purse at the time – are standard accessories to the black 'uniform'. But here's where being a woman gave her the stylish edge:

According to Steve Davis, "The end result (to the black tie code - n.b.) would be that people would stop worrying about what the players looked like and just watch the snooker."The strict dress code isn't explicit when it comes to ladies, so Michaela had the freedom - and the need -  to improvise. From tournament to tournament (sometimes from match to match) she switched between diamond and silver earrings, between a diamond cross pendant on a string, a diamond necklace and a velvet collar, between tight and loose buns and ribbons. She never gave up the black pointed  boots which are safe to wear because of the classic lined trousers.

thinks it's no wonder that Michaela Tabb was appointed the referee for this year's final and that various magazines are tacking around her for photoshoots.

Colour-In & Replacement Dresses

I somehow ran into this innovative dresses and had to share!
Berber Soepboer & Michiel Schuurman got together to work on two special dresses. The Colour-In Dress allows the owner to customise it following her own vision:

The Replacement Dress is made of three dresses each with a different multicolored pattern. The pieces are hold together with buttons and can be exchanged between themselves. So you will end up having three different 'ingredients' to style the dress the way you like it. Awesome, right?

Textile Design/Graphic Design: Michiel Schuurman
Photography: Sander Marsman, S
tyling: Anne Stooker,
Model: Nina Varga,
Make-up: Zarah Aharon

Both concepts rely very much on the patterns. They are the work of graphic designer Michiel Schuurman. The idea is that because they are self-designed, the person will care much more about them and therefore, clothing last longer. Clever, right? Well, I'm not sure whether I wouldn't be a bit worried about not messing up the beautiful black&white pattern in the first place, but well. I suppose I should have my eye out not to 'colour outside the lines', haha. Rapidly changing fashion? Here we come!

Side note: Why don't they put up a colour-in jacket? Water resistant, of course. It would be thousand times more amazing than this dress, if this is even possible. I would totally love one, and it would make any outfit unique because a jacket can be worn with many other pieces of clothing, while a dress is usually a self-centered piece by definition...

So Sweet It Will Give You Cavities

So meet my ultra-neon-colored dress. It so large and puffy it's a dream. And stands exactly at the top of the strong-color limit even for my eccentric tastes. Even though it doesn't have sleeves, it keeps warm, in a funny way. With that cardigan on top it feels even cozier.

I might get it done a bit shorter, but I kind of like this lenght too. It would be an instant switch from the 50s to the 90s. Hah. I'll be thinking about that.

If You Believe It, Clap Your Hands

I spend so much time watching/searching photos and beautiful shots but really I never get enough. And then there are those moments when you just stop in front of one excellent photo and just take time to admire it. I love photography that can transmit sensations: warm, cold, relaxation. Or even specific, hm, seasons without actually picturing them. If I'm getting a bit uncoherent, let me explain:

It is magical, isn't it? To express so many things through some simple lines and beautiful colors.

Tra-La-La

So today, boys and girls, is the first day of summer. Right? Finally, wee! So today we're unwinding a little... and take time to remind ourselves to keep our inner child happy. What better way to do that tell me than seeking inspiration in some beautiful photos? Haha. I love it when designers focus just a bit upon dressing up some young ones too. Not to mention about special lines of clothing for them... Here are the photos, enjoy:

I also wrote a while back (September 2008, no less, ahem...) a little something about the pros and cons about choosing designer clothing for children. I find that I still agree with the stuff so I won't be making any aditional points right now, just invite you to go see some beautifull photos from an old issue of french Elle... xo
