In Disguise

The photos are part of the latest editorial Erwin Olaf made for ELLE magazine. It was shot at the Amstel Hotel in Amsterdam. See, I was kind of right stating that Life Is One Big Balloon Party. Anyway, Erwin took photos of an extravagant party with glamorous costumed people... The story is entitled “Lof der Zotheid”, or in English “The Praise of Folly” after the most well-known work by Dutch author Erasmus. Really now, what would it be if costumed people would fill the theatres and they will not be actors, but spectators? Would they be better than the actual performers?
Marie Antoinette's decadent style has been around for a while and it's clearly not going anywhere soon. Not that I would mind, really. I could stare at glamorous rebellions like this for hours without getting tired. And the song for today comes from, tadah, Doris Day. It just went on air today as I was listening to online radio. It is nice when goldies pop up all of the sudden like this.

tHOSE bELLES iN vOGUE

Obviously I will never stop obsessing about Asia. Oriental, oriental, say no more. But that's another story. Because I saw this ed in Vogue Korea, I remembered about snow. Loads of snow that is. I found it depressing, really, that inside the city the streets are dry and... shiny? Ok, they sometimes freeze and are slippery in the morning, but it's hard to feel it's still winter.
My song obsession not as in recent, but I had it in my head ever since I woke up in the morning, so I have to listen it on repeat until it gets out for good. Or temporarely.

These above are three photos from the stack I took last week. Boots in the snow, me in front of the Christmas tree aaand my new notebook. Sort of. I finally got to fill completely Heyday, the thick one I had since, uh July. I'm impressed. Sooo... I got another one with yellow pages and a bookmark with a bead attached to it; and with velvet flowers on the covers.
I recently jumped into the bandwagon of Poladroid and read my lips: iT iS aDDICTIVE! And sooo fun. Go and download it. The interface was so nicely done, I was impressed at first and then couldn't stop dragging & dropping photos. Oh dear, clearly I must get some sleep. See ya.

Designer Spotlight: Francesco Scognamiglio

These outfits are part of Francesco Scognamiglio's SS09 collection. Some of the outfits, which I didn't include in this selection, are too... dangerous. Oh yes, quoting from style.com: "a perfect mix between elegantly chic and risque." There you go.  Also found out that Scognamiglio opened his first atelier when he was only 23. His design methods can be characterized by a “strange dichotomy between research, experimentation and avant-garde inspirations on one side and the traditional principles of the Neapolitan tailoring school on the other.” Obviously he is not so interested in selling the items, judging by some of his designs which remain just eye-candy.

What about those jumpsuits? I like the look of them, the material they were made out of and the final styling. But I can't help wondering how practical they are for a night out? So I remembered someting
Daddy Likey was writing about rompers, some time ago. I think it applies to jumpsuits just as well:

"[My daughter] wants a romper but I have been encouraging drug use, smoking, and piercings instead." ~Margaret
Keep being effervescent. I almost laughed my heart out there.

What I loved was the large variety of little white dresses. Angel-like dresses, complete with ruffles and something that resembles wings. Flamboyant, but should be relevant when it come to retail, too. If he could bring the garments to be more wearable, he might attract more clients. His skills are remarkable, and it would be interesting to see an upcoming collection that does not center itself so much on sheer garments or extreme materials to make itself credible.
Style, again: "He can cut a lean, mean suit with the best of them—but he'll never graduate to the big leagues like his front-row pals Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi have until he turns down the kink factor." True that. If you want to check out the rest of the collection and those risque pieces, go here.

Cookie Jar/Au Coeur De L'Hiver

Needless to point out again that it's freezing cold. Brr. I'm wearing a pair of tights I bought yesterday. These are one from the stack of things I purchased altogether on Saturday. But these tights are purple, oh the joy, and have flower patterns. Extra bonus for being 180 deniers thick and for matching my oxfords. I mean, heavenly in deed. Underneath I'm wearing a grey dress and a green, soft sweater, both tamed with a thin belt... So this is what I wore today. The beanie and the scarf are five years old (sssh) but keep themselves looking as bright as they did on the day I bought them. We are sentimentally attached by now, hehe. Kidding.

When Vampires Listen To Debussy

Last night I sat down and watched Twilight. As far as I've read on the subject (and I admit is not that much), I understood critics are not so enthusiastic about it. I couldn't say I blame them. The subject was kind of ok, but predictable. However, I liked the dark atmosphere and the air in the entire film. The plot is quite simple, you should look on IMDb for more dets.
A film with vampires and warewolfs which I'd say it's... cute. Haha. No, really now, it was interesting, especially the parts where Edward climbs fast up to the top of the trees and, oh yes, the fight scenes.

Did you see it? If you didn't, you should at least look at this vampire fight scene. I like it for some reason. Oh, wait, maybe Muse playing on the soundtrack has something to do with it? Supermassive Black Hole is one of the songs I never get out of my player. Ever.
And talking about music, I loved to hear Radiohead in the end, too. Their songs remind me about summer. But I think I've mentioned that a hundred times before already. Check out the soundtrack listing, too.

New Kids In Town

Definitely the fashion scene will soon be taken over by childrenswear. And judging by how amazingly, well, grown-up they look (you can almost read determination in their eyes) I'm sure the future will be bright. Even with the economical downfall, morel top brands will launch future collections for kids. The top selling designer labels at NY Barney's include Philip Lim kids, John Galliano and Little Marc Jacobs. Upcoming kids collections are expected from J.P.Gaultier and Lacoste.
I always believed that dressing kids in designer clothes head to toe is a bit too much, given their age. I mean, they are kids and growing up so fast, that their clothes will barely fit them properly in matter of, hm, weeks? And not to mention they like playing in the strangest places of them all, so why spend a small fortune so the kid can mess it all up in the sand? No matter how rich people are, splurging like that is something I don't understand.
On the other hand, buying some fancier clothes or accessories to children once in a while will make them understand their value.  And also these can be used on multiple occassions. That being said, I love the styling of everything and how dynamic the poses are. You know, I am a big time fan of eye-candy. Also, don't they bring to mind the Asian street style? Or maybe I've been looking at too many zines today...

To There & Back

Hello! It's 2009 and I'm back, whee! Thank you all for the nice wishes and have an amazing time, all year round! And do watch the video above I've put together. For its whiteness, hehe. The image moves a lot, but it was difficult to keep the camera still.
Did you make sure you kept warm? Today I slept and enjoyed the small bits of candy & fractions of quiet life that remain after the holiday. Oh, and surely bought a bunch of great stuff you will surely see soon, soon.
