After seeing a movie that I like, the days to follow are filled with obsessing about it. Obsessing as in looking for similar inspiration sources. Regarding wardrobe, accessories, atmosphere, settings. Yesterday I saw Brideshead Revisited. It was amazing. A quiet movie, but with profound significances, the one which doesn't let you exit the cinema room before asking yourself a number of questions. I loved how the action developed throughout the film, making it quite dynamic.
Because I can't summarize it that easy, I'll just put up for you the somewords on the plot as found on IMDb: The memoirs of Captain Charles Ryder who is stationed at Brideshead Castle during WWII and remembers his involvement with the owners of the Brideshead estate: the aristocratic yet Catholic Flyte family and in particular brother and sister Sebastian and Julia.
My only disappointment was that Sebastian was, well, neglected towards the end of the film and the focus moved onto Julia. The character of Julia was played by Hayley Atwel. As a great part of the movie presented what happened ten and four years earlier, one of the most interesting things was to follow the way the actors were impersonating younger character selfs and the means used to suggest the passing of time.

What I also found interesting was the way the male characters were dressed. Sure, they had a good financial state for those times, Sebastian being quite wealthy. But what caught my eye were good knitted pieces, scarves, impeccable three-piece suits, elegant accessories.

Charles Ryder: [suggestively] I can't sleep...

Unfortunately, I doubt it will be screened in the next couple of weeks here, in Podgorica. Maybe I will be able to see it in Bucharest ;)

ReplyDeleteHi! I'd like to see that film. Did you ever see the movie, "The Wings of the Dove"...It was one of my favorite movies in the 90's, which now seems like a 'period piece' in itself. haha I wanted to say I love your blog and exquisite style and fashion sense. Keep up the great work in 2009! Happy New Year!
