Deconstructing Silhouettes

One of the most important things when putting up an outfit is the silhouette you create. It's even more important than the clothes themselves. Why? Because the silhouette establishes what kind of a first impression you offer. No matter how interesting or fabulous the pieces you wear are, a misshaped organisation can ruin everything.
So, how do we organise ourselves? First of all, and I suppose you do know this, is not to accentuate too many parts of your body at once. For example, slim fit trousers+a blouse with lots of volume. Or: larger than life trousers and a looser blouse following the lines of the upper part of the body but not skin-tight. In terms of shapes and volumes I generally tend to appreciate what Balenciaga and Martin Margiela send down the runway.
I ran into these photos on tfs from Burberry Prorsum Pre-Fall 2009 which show some of the most impeccable silhouettes. Definitely worth taking note. I'm especially mad about the blazer and trousers in the first photo. Picture the blazer of this lenght worn all buttoned up, a pair of warm black tights and heels.
