It's fascinating to see the sources of creation. That first idea that led to them. The unfinished drawing, the sketch made up from a few lines. I came across these illustrations from fashion historian Laird Borrelli's new book entitled Fashion Illustration by Fashion Designers. This newly released book features 250 original sketches from 50 of the world's top designers, including Christian Lacroix, Karl Lagerfeld, Rodarte, Christopher Kane, Betsey Johnson.

'The Garden of Earthly Delights’, by Basso & Brooke, 2005

Y & Kei Water The Earth, 2007
Gianfranco Ferre, 1987

I'm fascinated. These sketches were never intended for public viewing. Extremely personal, they could be compared to handwriting. A way to discover the way the designer thinks his creations. Moods, feelings, joy and fun. Totally overwhelming to see.
Sweet treats,
